The polio virus is spread from person to person. It is spread from the faecal- Oral Route, or contaminated Food/Water. This virus only affects humans. This virus is extremely contagious. The virus lives in an infected person’s throat and their intestines. This virus enters the body through the mouth or contact with the feces of an infected person. Less commonly, droplets from a cough or a sneeze. You can infect another person with the polio virus if their is feces on your hands and you touch your mouth, or if their is feces on an objects that you put in your mouth. An infected person spreads the virus within 1 and 2 weeks after symptoms appear. This virus could live in an infected person’s feces for multiple weeks. This contaminates food and water. People with no symptoms still pass the virus and infect others.
